ACFO recently submitted a brief to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance as part of the committee’s 2018 pre-budget consultation.
This year, the Finance Committee expressed interest in recommendations for federal measures that would support Canada’s productivity and competitiveness. The focus of ACFO’s submission was on leveraging the resources and competitive advantages the government already has at its fingertips for the benefit of all Canadians.
Specifically, ACFO recommended that the government draw on the expertise of its world-class public service when undertaking large-scale projects instead of resorting to external contractors. We also encouraged the government to collect tax revenue that it is rightfully owed and reinvest that revenue into measures that support growth and innovation.
