Collective Bargaining: Update on Recent Media Reports

Last week the federal government offered to negotiate wages with the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) prior to the expiry of their current collective agreements.

According to reports, negotiations are to commence immediately and settlements must be reached within weeks.

We would like to take this opportunity to inform you that this development should not have an impact on current negotiations between ACFO and Treasury Board. We have scheduled bargaining dates in October 2010 and will continue our discussions with Treasury Board, which include the duration of the next Collective Agreement and could include a multi-year wage offer from the employer similar to that being discussed with PSAC and PIPSC.

While we understand the constraints of the current economic climate that have brought forward the federal government’s recent offer to the two largest federal public service bargaining agents, ACFO will remain committed to making best efforts to ensure we are able to negotiate a workable and fair agreement for the FI Community.
