ACFO recently submitted a brief to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance as part of that committee’s budget consultation process.
Our submission outlined common-sense recommendations that could generate billions in tax revenue simply by making the tax regime more fair – recommendations that won’t affect the taxes paid by the vast majority of Canadians in the slightest.
As we prepare for the upcoming round of bargaining with the cloud of austerity hanging overhead, it’s important that the government do its due diligence on both sides of the ledger. Balancing the budget requires a focus on collecting missed revenues as much as on cutting expenses.
