Challenges getting approval to attend FMI PD Week

Once again this year, we’ve received many reports of departments not giving approval to members of the FI Community who do not have a CPA designation to attend the Financial Management Institute’s PD Week in Ottawa.

ACFO strongly opposes this policy and continues to raise it with the Office of the Comptroller General. We’ve had talks with them as recently as last week about the unfair treatment of FIs based on such an arbitrary distinction.

At this point, we don’t anticipate changes to the policy at the departmental level in time for this year’s event. But we will continue to work with the OCG on this issue as part of our overall effort to secure improvements to the professional development afforded to our community.
