Announcing the results of the 2019-20 State of the Community survey

ACFO-ACAF is excited to announce that the results of our fifth annual State of the Community Survey, released in May 2020, are now available.

The State of the Community survey measures ACFO-ACAF members’ opinions of their departments’ performance on priorities including:

• professional development;
• leave;
• work-life balance; and
•  workplace satisfaction.

Although members were asked to answer questions as they described their working conditions prior to the outbreak of COVID-19, this year’s survey included a brief section that collected information specifically about the pandemic policies in place.

The State of the Community survey results also allow members to compare different departments’ performance in the priority areas listed above.

The departments that were ranked in the top three in the greatest number of categories include:

1. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada
2. Justice Canada
3. Innovation, Science and Economic Development

The departments that were ranked in the bottom three in the greatest number of categories include:

1. Treasury Board Secretariat
2. Global Affairs Canada
3. Veterans Affairs Canada

In addition to ongoing discussions regarding COVID-19 policies and practices, ACFO-ACAF President Dany Richard will be addressing the results of the survey in meetings with departments’ senior management in the coming weeks and months.

The full 2019-20 survey results, along with results for previous years, will be available exclusively on my.ACFO-ACAF. To view the results, members must log in to my.ACFO-ACAF. You will find a .zip folder of the survey documents in the Documents section of the portal. The 2019-20 survey results page includes:

• 2019-20 State of the Community complete survey analysis: This comprehensive report identifies key highlights from the survey results, examines the results of each survey question in detail and compares the 2019-20 results to those of 2018-19;
• Departmental report card: This document shows how 19 different departments performed in 28 categories, identifying the top three and bottom three departments in each;
• Departmental summaries: These reports provide key highlights from 19 different departments’ survey results and a chart comparing their most recent results to both the 2019-20 survey results as a whole and their own performance in 2018-19; and
• Equity group analyses: This new series of reports compares the results for each survey question for the membership as a whole with those of official employment equity groups – women, Aboriginal peoples, people with a disability and members of visible minorities – and identifies key highlights.

We want to thank all 1,115 ACFO-ACAF members who participated in the survey during this challenging time. Your feedback offers insight into which departments offer the most opportunities for success and a positive working environment and helps shape ACFO-ACAF’s departmental advocacy efforts.
