Siva is described by his coworkers as having an impressive work ethic, demonstrating his commitment to the projects that he is tasked with completing. Around the office, Siva is recognized as someone who can seamlessly establish a connection with everyone he meets, make them feel welcome and a valuable part of the team.
On top of his workload, Siva has gotten involved in several important initiatives, including the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC).
My name is Siva Kathirgamanathan. I work for Infrastructure Canada and I am an FI-04.
Infrastructure Canada is a fairly new department. I do quite a lot, to be honest with you. I work for the Chief Audit and Evaluation Executive who is responsible for both the internal audit, evaluation, and what’s called performance practices. I deal with corporate ministerial correspondences, creating wonderful reports about infrastructure talking about bridges and stuff like that. We produce a lot of high-quality products for sure.
I’ve got two kids, a son and a daughter, 11 and 7 years old. I like to spend a lot of time with them which includes taking them to soccer, baseball, dance classes, and gymnastics. I try to go on vacations and stuff like that with the family as that’s important to us, as well as family gatherings. When I’m not doing that, I try and work out in the gym that we just recently renovated.
Favorite part of my job, I have to say is collaborating with people in the department. As part of our job, we’re constantly speaking with senior management, which can be both fun and difficult at times. We collaborate with them to make sure that our products that we create as part of the audit and evaluation branch really feeds to their needs, meets the department’s priorities, and more importantly, looks at the key risks that the department faces.
I’ve been in government for quite a while. I’m not going to say the number of years I’ve been in government, but it’s been quite some time. I’ve been part of about three professional communities. My job classification just recently joined the CT Community. It’s really refreshing, there’s a lot of interaction within the community.
People are very proactive, and they reach out to you, so go interact, build your networks, and talk to people. Not only is it going to help you with progressing in your career, but it’s also going to help you build networks if you want to either be promoted in another department or agency, or if you just want to talk to someone about what’s the best way to do X, Y or Z. There’s a lot of things that the community is doing, especially from the union side, the ACFO side, and one of those is making sure that the internal audit community is well-represented. Things like making sure that pay equity is there because there’s a lot of different job classifications that existed before, but ACFO and the CT Community is really making sure that all of that is brought together and everybody’s recognized the same way. I really appreciate that with the CT Community and ACFO in general.
