PSDCP: Submit a predetermination request before receiving dental care

After hearing that multiple public servants have been denied coverage, we would like to remind the CT Community about the importance of submitting a predetermination request to Canada Life, the administrators of the Public Service Dental Care Plan (PSDCP), before receiving any treatment that is expected to cost $300 or more.
A predetermination is a tool offered by Canada Life that helps to clarify your proposed treatment:
- Whether the proposed dental services are eligible;
- How much of the expenses will be reimbursed; and
- How much you will have to pay out of pocket (your co-payment).
Canada Life will not reimburse plan members who receive treatments outside the coverage of the PSDCP. That’s why it’s important to submit a predetermination, as doing so could potentially save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars of unexpected out-of-pocket expenses.
Submitting a predetermination
In most cases, your dental provider will submit a predetermination directly to Canada Life on your behalf, but in a situation where you’re required to submit it yourself, you can do so either online or by mail.
