ACFO-ACAF EDI Learning Series: Indigenous Peoples in Canada

ACFO-ACAF has scheduled the next session of our ongoing EDI Learning Series. This series of events provides ACFO-ACAF members with an opportunity to come together over the lunch hour and discuss topics related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

During this session, trained facilitators from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada will be joining us to discuss Indigenous Peoples in Canada. A session in English will take place on October 23, 2023, from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm ET and a French session will take place on October 24, 2023, from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm ET. Our hosts will cover multiple topics including:

• key similarities / differences and shared history between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Peoples;
• the impact of residential schools, racism and microaggressions;
• building relationships; and
• the process of individual and collective reflection on reconciliation.

Attending the sessions

Our EDI Learning Series sessions in the past have primarily been held virtually, but this time around we are inviting members to take part in-person!

While there will still be an option to attend the session virtually, members in the National Capital Region are invited to join us at the Mikinàk Ceremonial Lodge (960 Carling Ave building 39, Ottawa, ON) which is located on the grounds of the Central Experimental Farm. In-person attendees will receive a complimentary lunch upon completion of the session! Register before October 19, 2023, if you wish to attend in-person and ensure that you include any dietary restrictions when prompted on the registration form.

The Mikinàk Ceremonial Lodge is a place for Indigenous Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) employees and community members to come together, exchange ideas and perform traditional ceremonies. You can learn more about the importance of the lodge here.
