Over the past few months, we at ACFO-ACAF have heard from hundreds of our members about the issues that they have endured since the implementation of the federal government’s new Public Service Health Care Plan with Canada Life which came into effect on July 1, 2023.
Since its implementation, our members, along with tens of thousands of other federal employees from across the public service, have dealt with issues such as long claim processing delays and errors in coverage.
Therefore, on November 1, ACFO-ACAF and 18 other federal public service bargaining agents sent a letter to President of the Treasury Board Anita Anand urging the government to hold Canada Life accountable for the many problems that public servants are facing.
The letter specifically calls on the Honourable Anita Anand to extend all legacy periods from December 31, 2023, to July 1, 2024, and more specifically, to defer changes to mandatory generic drug substitutions, compound drugs, and prior authorization until the claims process and overall transition have stabilized.
At ACFO-ACAF, we understand that the health and wellbeing of our members and their dependents is reliant upon the Public Service Health Care Plan. We will continue to advocate for not only our members, but for all public servants, as these issues have gone on for far too long and action must be taken swiftly.
