Today marks the second annual National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. On this day, we take the time to recognize the injustices that Indigenous Peoples have endured throughout Canada’s history, while also acknowledging the need to continue working towards reconciliation and justice for Indigenous Peoples across Canada.
Since last year’s inaugural National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, ACFO-ACAF developed the EDI Learning Series, a series of online webinars that provided ACFO-ACAF members with an opportunity to come together and discuss topics related to equity, diversity and inclusion. Join us for our next session in French on Indigenous Peoples in Canada with facilitators from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.

The statutory holiday associated with the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation applies to all ACFO-ACAF members, as outlined in their respective collective agreements, categorized as “one additional day when proclaimed by an act of Parliament as a national holiday”.

While we at ACFO-ACAF recognize this statutory holiday as an effort to honour those who have been impacted by the unjust treatment of Indigenous Peoples in Canada, there is still much more work to be done. As a result, we call on the federal government to adopt and implement the 94 Calls to Action laid out by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
