We are pleased to share on behalf of Treasury Board that the Advanced Financial Officer Development (AFOD) program is now accepting applications until August 2, 2023, at 11:59 pm PT.

AFOD is a national program managed by the Office of the Comptroller General of Canada (OCG). The 32-month program aims to help financial officers at the CT-FIN-02 (formerly FI-02) and CT-FIN-03 (formerly FI-03) level build on their breadth and depth of competencies, knowledge, and experiences to take on enhanced leadership responsibilities.

One key requirement for admission is support from the candidate’s Deputy Chief Financial Officer (DCFO). In their application, candidates will indicate if they have received support or will do so by August 31, 2023. DCFO recommendations can take the form of a letter of recommendation or an email saying they support the candidate’s application. However, we encourage you to apply for the AFOD program even if you don’t have approval from your DCFO yet.

Once all the applications are received, the OCG will share each organization’s applications with their respective DCFO to select candidates while bearing in mind the Government of Canada’s commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion. They hope to begin consultations with DCFOs soon and have the first rotation begin in November 2023.

We’re aware that the deadline to apply is short and we have requested that the OCG extend the deadline to apply. In the meantime, more information on the program can be found on the OCG’s website and GCpedia page.

Should you have any additional comments, questions, or concerns, please contact the OCG at AFOD.APAF@tbs-sct.gc.ca.
