Remembering Gene Szabo 

We are sad to share that former ACFO-ACAF member, director, and staff member Gene Szabo passed away on December 9, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and significant contributions to our union. 

Gene played a pivotal role in the survival and success of ACFO-ACAF. His commitment was exemplified during his tenure as Executive Vice-President on the ACFO-ACAF Board of Directors. Additionally, he served as the Executive Director on staff under our inaugural President, Merdon Hosking.  

A man of great generosity, Gene dedicated his time and energy to volunteer for numerous organizations. His impact extended beyond his formal roles, as he was also a mentor to many staff members, imparting wisdom and guidance that helped shape those fortunate enough to work alongside him. 

Gene’s contributions have left an indelible mark on our union, and his memory will continue to inspire us in our pursuit of excellence and fairness for all members. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.
